2024 update remake please ;)

I'll take 12 over 7 anytime. Maybe it's because I love Metal Gear Solid and while FF 7 Showed promise and a great combat system, it didn't blow me away the same way Metal Gear Solid did in PS 1. Plus there's also the Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross being the GOAT Squaresoft RPG with good graphics and deep storyline and world building. Then FF 12 comes along and the moment you spend more than 5hrs of gameplay, it becomes a timeless classic. TZA improves what the International Zodiac version initially has but it's still just the same game and yet you get to discover new things and perspective even after 16 years because it shares the lore with other Ivalice Classics. Ff7 remake in PC didn't even have that impact and while the reboot is doing a good job, it's new materials compared to Ff12 which is a decade old game and still has the most creative gameplay mechanics to any Final fantasy game including the Tactical Rpg ones.

THANKS GOODNESS!! I was hoping to see persona in this list so I would not invalidate any other recommendation, but it would never come!! I was getting anxious!! BUT HELL YEAH, it came, and it deserves the top!!

Im just surprised anyone who never saw the show or manga at all are able to connect to the characters at all. Ass a fan my biggest criticism of this game is it starts halfway through the overall story with no context as to who anyone is or how they know each other. While dropping in some of the most important plot points for the overall story.

I tried the Cold Steel series and Trails from Zero, but there's just too much bland dialogue and not enough voice acting, if they made a tldr mode I'd be down.

In previous games Calvard always seemed like it was basically the 'Near East' if it was governed like the United States. I haven't played this yet but I know it was having an immigration crisis with what amounts to East Asia in this game's universe. I was getting vibes they were making a commentary on the US-Mexico border. Looking forward to seeing whether my impressions were wrong or not.

I think not having everything voiced is both a blessing and a curse. In one hand it would be nice to just have it voiced. But on the other hand having it not be voiced allows them to have alot more dialouge and text boxes in general. Since they can add alot more lore, people to talk to and longer conversations and not go over budget.

I love how u aren't afraid to fish out ur weird takes and say such contradictory things lool. "I genuinely almost quit this game twice because of its weird dungeons" saying that while talking about the game you think was the second best of the entire year 😭😭😭😭

FF7 remake is also my favourite modern JRPG, despite its gameplay pacing issues. (haven't played rebirth yet).

Gotta imagine the “FnV” line was a western localization? Never played any of these games, was gonna get this, but now idk. I love the Falcom Ys games, extremely wholesome. Vulgarity just for vulgarity sake is not for me. I wish them well.

It's funny, FF7 remake definitely drags. But the reasons it drags for me are different from yours. The lamp switching and sewer sections were two of my favourite parts of the game because it actually LET YOU PLAY. I know.. insane concept for a video game. While the cutscenes were wonderfully done and I would struggle to remove any of the story driven ones, I feel like they could have been handled better, presented more in clusters rather than CONSTANTLY stopping you from actually playing the game. FF7 remake was at its best when the game let you enjoy its awesome combat and actually gave u free reigns to explore. The problem with the game is that it CONSTANTLY took control from the player to give you inane cutscenes/dialogue where the characters are spelling out the objective or giving descriptive exposition about the area you're in when it should just let you fucking play and naturally experience/figure things out. It also murders the game's pacing by constantly removing clouds ability to run unnecessarily.

You should make a sequel to this video. I don't use Twitter/discord. You forgot Svarog's Dream (okay it's a Wrpg) and World of Horror. Also if Sweet Home (Capcom rpg pre-cursor to resident evil) on the famicom was ever released in Usa or Europe it would had been rated M easily.

Have you played World of Horror or Sea of Stars? Games I'm looking forward to are Beyond Shadowgate, Gestalt steam & cinder, Rune Fencer illyia. I also need to play CrossCode and Svarog's Dream.

I'd buy that shirt!! I gave a try to all compile heart and idea factory game with an open mind, and even if I really tried to find some qualities I ended up hating almost all of them.

I started with the demo for Cold Steel 3 and enjoyed it. The first Sky game was cheap on steam so I bought played and loved it and now im moving on to the second game.

Played both this and the sequel fan-translated and they were fantastic. Only disadvantage is now I'm sitting here stuck until Mr. Korean Badass english translates the third entry of this when it comes out. Kind of annoyed that they're not touching on the obvious time sept-terrion shit in two games, though. I know it's coming but I feel like they're taking way too long with it.

You had me at "Truly innovative" Taylor. NIS/Falcom has done an excellent job at bringing this series to West and for that they have my praise. Bandai Namco could really something from them. Anyway, this seems like another solid entry in an overall pretty great RPGs series. Hope fans & newcomers will keep supporting this series.

That whole thing about some characters being voiced and others not voiced in the same interaction has been present in this franchise since the first game that got voice acting. It's definitely a weird choice since they could opt to voice some interactions for all characters and not voice others that aren't as important instead of mixing voiced and not-voiced lines with no rhyme or reason, but at this point in the series I suspect I would notice it no longer happens if they went full voice acting and feel that something's off like when you walk into your place and a family member changed the drapes but you don't know about it and you feel something's wrong because you're subconsciously noticing the change even if you haven't actually pin-pointed what's different.

"FnV" LMAO. The fan translation version was already funny, didn't expect them to turn it to 11 there.

Every time I want to start a new trails game and voice it on here I’m bombarded with posts saying I need to play all the previous ones first. I’m curious what the consensus will be with this one even after hearing what the Gaming Shelf has to say about it. The fan base of this game series is pretty strong.

I’ve been playing these games since I was a child and Sky 2 is my favorite game of all time. But I learned how to mod and patch games so I could play the fan translation and I can say this is one of the best designed games I’ve ever played.

Note: Daybreak 2 suffers due to its chapter 3, with its horrible story due to juggling randomness as a reuslt of rushing due to other game delays

Looks interesting. I see it's on Steam but sadly not part of their big Steam summer sale. I'll keep an eye on it for a good sale.
